Lebanese Branch of the
World's Poultry Science Association (WPSA)
The WPSA – Lebanon Branch (جمعية علم الدواجن العالمية) was established in 1963 when the poultry industry was still in its early stages of development.
By 1965 it had developed so fast to the extent that egg producers were starting to export a good part
of their production to neighbouring countries.
The membership of the branch was about a dozen people among whom were
Hassan Shuman, Philip Nasrallah, Musa Frieji, Samir Cortbawi, Raja Hajj, Hisham Saadeh,
Adib Samaha, Ibrahim Akkawi, Nuhad Daghir, Antoine Sayegh and Mustafa Al-Sayed.
In 1970 there were over 40 members registered in the branch most of whom were industry people
and the branch was holding annual meetings with invited speakers from research centers
from various countries.
Unfortunately this very active period did not last very long because of the onset
of the civil war in 1975.
The branch is now active again and we have over 50 members registered in it.
This conference is living proof of its activities.
