Welcome Address from the Chairperson of the VIII Mediterranean Poultry Summit of the WPSA, Split 2026

Dear Colleague and Friend,
It is my great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the 8th Mediterranean Poultry Summit, held in Split, Croatia, from 27 to 30 September 2026.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee and the Croatian Branch of the World’s Poultry Science Association, I am delighted to welcome scientists, researchers, professionals, representatives of the poultry industry, and young colleagues from many countries to Croatia.
This Summit is particularly special for us, as it is the first Mediterranean Poultry Summit to be held in Croatia.
Since its establishment in 2008, the Mediterranean Poultry Network has provided an important platform for scientific cooperation, knowledge exchange and the development of professional connections across the Mediterranean region and beyond. We are proud that Split now becomes part of the history of the Mediterranean Poultry Summits, following previous meetings held in Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon, Italy and Spain.
The scientific programme of the 8th MPS covers a broad range of current topics in poultry science and production, including nutrition, health, genetics and reproduction, meat and egg quality and safety, production and management, sustainability, economics, and new technologies. Through plenary lectures, oral presentations and poster sessions, the Summit offers an excellent opportunity to share recent research findings, exchange ideas and discuss the challenges facing the poultry sector today.
I am especially pleased that the Summit provides opportunities for young scientists and researchers to present their work, meet colleagues from different countries and establish new scientific collaborations. Supporting the next generation of poultry scientists is essential for the future of our scientific community.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the members of the Organizing and Scientific Committees, the Mediterranean Poultry Network, WPSA and the European Federation, our sponsors and supporters, invited speakers, authors, reviewers, students and everyone who contributed to making this Summit possible.
Above all, thank you to all of you for joining us in Split. I hope that the 8th Mediterranean Poultry Summit will provide not only valuable scientific discussions and new professional connections, but also an opportunity to enjoy Split, the Mediterranean atmosphere and Croatian hospitality.
I wish you a successful, inspiring and memorable Summit.
Welcome to Split and welcome to the 8th Mediterranean Poultry Summit!
With warm regards,
Prof. Dr. Nives Marušić Radovčić
Chairperson of the 8th Mediterranean Poultry Summit of the WPSA.
Welcome Address from the President of the Croatian Branch of WPSA

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
On behalf of the Croatian Branch of the World’s Poultry Science Association (WPSA-CRO), it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 8th Mediterranean Poultry Summit in Split, Croatia.
For the Croatian Branch, hosting this important international meeting is both an honour and a continuation of our long-standing commitment to promoting poultry science, strengthening professional cooperation, and connecting research, education and industry.
WPSA-CRO brings together experts from different areas of poultry science and production, creating strong links between universities, research institutions, veterinary and agricultural professionals, and the poultry industry. We firmly believe that such interdisciplinary cooperation, together with active participation in the international WPSA community, is essential for addressing the challenges facing modern poultry production.
Over the years, the Croatian Branch has been actively involved in organizing major international scientific meetings in Croatia, including the European Poultry Genetics Symposium in Dubrovnik in 2005, the European Poultry Conference in Dubrovnik in 2018, and EggMeat 2025 in Zadar. We are therefore especially proud that Croatia is now hosting the Mediterranean Poultry Summit for the first time.
The Mediterranean Poultry Summit represents an important opportunity to bring together colleagues from different countries, exchange scientific knowledge and professional experience, and create new connections within the poultry community. We are particularly pleased that the Summit encourages the participation of young scientists and provides them with an opportunity to present their research, meet established experts and develop future international collaborations.
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Mediterranean Poultry Network, WPSA, the European Federation, the Organizing and Scientific Committees, invited speakers, sponsors and supporters, as well as everyone whose contribution has made this Summit possible.
I hope that the 8th Mediterranean Poultry Summit will be a stimulating and rewarding scientific meeting and that your time in Split will bring not only new knowledge and professional collaborations, but also many pleasant memories.
Welcome to Split, and I wish you a successful and enjoyable 8th Mediterranean Poultry Summit.
Prof. Emerita Dr. Estella Prukner-Radovčić

Welcome Address from the President of the Mediterranean Poultry Network of the WPSA

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It is a real pleasure, as President of the Mediterranean Poultry Network of the World’s Poultry Science Association, to welcome you to the 8th Mediterranean Poultry Summit, held in Split, Croatia, from 27 to 30 September 2026.
For many of us, the Mediterranean Poultry Summit is much more than another scientific meeting. Over the years, it has become a place where colleagues from different countries meet again, where new collaborations begin, where young researchers present their work for the first time, and where scientific discussions continue well beyond the lecture rooms.
Bringing this community together has not always been easy. In recent years, the Summit has had to adapt to circumstances far beyond the control of its organisers, including postponements, changes of venue and difficult international contexts. The fact that we are meeting again in Split is therefore particularly meaningful. It reflects not only the commitment of the organising team, but also the resilience of a scientific community that has continued to find ways to remain connected and move forward.
Since the first Summit in Greece in 2008, the MPS has travelled across the Mediterranean, bringing together a community that is very diverse in its production systems, resources and challenges, but also closely connected by common interests and by a long tradition of cooperation.
Today, poultry production in our region faces increasingly complex challenges. Climate change, sustainability, animal health and welfare, feed and resource efficiency, food safety, product quality and the economic viability of production systems are all closely linked. There are rarely simple answers to these questions, and this is precisely why meetings such as the MPS remain so valuable: they allow us to exchange evidence, experiences and different perspectives, and to learn from one another.
This Book of Abstracts reflects that diversity. It brings together work from many areas of poultry science and from researchers at very different stages of their careers. I am particularly pleased to see the strong participation of young scientists. Giving them the opportunity to present their work, meet colleagues from other countries and become part of our scientific community is one of the most important things we can do for the future of poultry science in the Mediterranean region.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Croatian Branch of WPSA, the local and scientific organising committees, the University of Split, the invited speakers, sponsors, and everyone who has worked to make this Summit possible. I would also like to acknowledge the support of the European Federation of WPSA and the Italian and Spanish Branches, which have helped facilitate participation in the Summit by covering registration fees for a number of attendees, as well as the support provided through the WPSA Speakers Bureau towards the travel costs of some invited speakers. These contributions have helped make the meeting more accessible and have strengthened its international and Mediterranean character.
Above all, I would like to thank all of you for being here. A scientific meeting only becomes meaningful when people come together, share their work openly, ask questions, discuss, disagree constructively, and create new connections. I hope that these days in Split will give us all the opportunity to do exactly that.
I also hope you will find some time to enjoy the city, the Mediterranean atmosphere and, above all, the company of colleagues and friends.
Welcome to Split, and welcome to the 8th Mediterranean Poultry Summit.
